Community Impact Award

Entry Criteria: Open to projects of any scale, from public spaces and community centres to housing developments and educational facilities. Entries must include evidence of community engagement, collaboration with stakeholders, and measurable social impact.

Interior Architecture Award

Recognises exceptional interior design and architecture within projects, focusing on functionality, aesthetics, and innovation. Entries showcase outstanding interior spaces enhancing the overall living experience.

Entry Criteria: Open to projects demonstrating creativity in spatial planning, material selection, lighting design, and integration with the overall architectural concept. Entries should provide documentation highlighting the impact of interior design on the project's success.

Heritage Preservation Award

Recognises projects effectively preserving, restoring, or adapting historic structures for contemporary use, maintaining the integrity of the original design while accommodating modern functionality.

Entry Criteria: Open to restoration, adaptive reuse, and conservation projects of historic buildings or sites. Entries must provide documentation of historical research, conservation methodologies, and adherence to preservation standards.

Landscape Architecture Award

Celebrates excellence in landscape architecture, recognising projects that enhance outdoor spaces through innovative design, sustainability, and sensitivity to the natural environment.

Entry Criteria: Open to landscape architecture projects of any scale, including public parks, urban plazas, and private gardens. Entries should demonstrate a strong connection to the surrounding context, consideration of ecological principles, and integration of user experience.

Architecture Vision Award

Explores visionary architectural concepts anticipating future challenges and opportunities, presenting bold ideas and imaginative solutions addressing pressing issues such as urbanisation, climate change, and technological advancement.

Entry Criteria: Open to conceptual designs, master plans, and urban proposals. Entries must articulate a clear vision for the future, supported by rigorous research, innovative design strategies, and visionary thinking.

Innovation Award

Celebrates projects pushing the boundaries of architectural expression through creative use of materials and construction techniques, showcasing innovative applications resulting in unique and inspiring built environments.

Entry Criteria: Open to projects demonstrating mastery of materiality, craftsmanship, and engineering innovation. Entries must provide detailed documentation of material selection, fabrication processes, and technical specifications. Special Categories

Emerging Practice Award

This category is intended to give recognition to the younger members of the profession, by awarding their body of work, ethos and organisational capacity.

Entry Criteria: Eligible participants must be fully qualified periti, whether individual or registered partnerships, and paid-up members of the Kamra tal-Periti, who have been practising for not more than 10 years on the deadline of the award entries, or practices where 51% or more of principals have been practicing for not more than 10 years on the deadline for submission of entries. Nominees submitting an entry for the Emerging Practice Award should include a comprehensive portfolio of projects.

Climate Action Award

Celebrates projects prioritising sustainability and environmental responsibility, demonstrating a commitment to energy efficiency, resource conservation, and sustainable building practices tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities of the Mediterranean climate. Entries should address issues such as water scarcity, extreme heat, and seasonal variations in climate through innovative design solutions that harness natural resources, optimise passive cooling strategies, and promote biodiversity in Mediterranean landscapes.

Entry Criteria: Open to both new construction and renovation projects. Entries must provide evidence of sustainable design strategies specifically adapted to Mediterranean environments, such as passive heating and cooling techniques, use of locally-sourced and renewable materials, integration of green technologies suited for Mediterranean climates, and consideration of cultural heritage and landscape context.

ROLE MODEL CATEGORIES

Architecture Leadership Award

Celebrating individuals, firms, or institutions who exemplify leadership and advocate for the architectural community resulting in significant impact and the advancement of the architectural profession and / or shaping of the built environment in Malta. The award recognises achievements in areas such as design innovation, sustainable practices, cultural preservation, community engagement, and professional advocacy. The award seeks to inspire future generations, by promoting a culture of leadership, innovation, and responsibility towards the built environment in Malta. By honouring exemplary leadership, the award aims to elevate the discourse on architecture and its transformative role in shaping sustainable, inclusive, and culturally rich communities in Malta and beyond.

Entry Criteria: This category is open to all individuals, firms or institutions. Submissions, via nomination, must include a portfolio of work that demonstrates the far-reaching and consistent impact of the architectural leader in the period spanning: 1st January, 2019 and 1st June, 2024.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Recognising significant and outstanding contributions to the field of architecture over a distinguished career, this award celebrates individuals whose work has made a consistent and lasting impact on the profession and on the Islands’ architectural discourse. This award honours architects whose distinguished careers have left a profound impact on the architectural profession, showcasing innovation, leadership, and enduring influence.

President’s Award for Best Overall Project

The Presidential Award is the highest honour in architectural achievement, recognising projects that excel in design innovation, environmental responsibility, social inclusivity, and cultural significance.
